How do I know whether an item is available for my hire date?
We have a large warehouse full of letters and numbers, visit our instant quote calculator on our website to make a booking. If your date is unavailable, the online calender will show your date as unavailable. For any special requests email us at hello@takeavowel.co.uk
Which areas do you cover?
We cover Kent and the surrounding areas. Take A Vowel is based in Herne Bay.
I would like to book with you. Do you ask for a deposit?
To secure your date and hire items we ask for a 20% deposit. Date and item availability will remain open until we receive your deposit. The balance is required 30 days prior to the event.
Do you require a damage deposit?
We do not take a damage deposit, however our Terms and Conditions of contract state that in the event of any damage caused to our items by the hirer, any of their guests or any venue staff, the hirer will then be invoiced for repair or replacement after the event has finished.
Do you allow the attachment of a balloon arch?
Yes, we work with a number of talanted balloon installation designers and can recommend suppliers. If using your own supplier or providing your own, please only attach hooks to the letters or numbers using command hook removeable pads.
Are you insured?
Yes. We have full Public Liability Insurance. Should your venue require a copy of our insurance, please let us know and we will forward the relevant documentation.
Do you offer discounts or promotions?

What size are the light up letters & numbers?
Our numbers and letters are 4ft/120cm tall and are hand crafted in the UK.
Do the numbers/light bulbs get hot?
We use the original fairground style Cabochon LED lights. They do not get hot like standard household lightbulbs. However, we would ask that guests do not touch the numbers/lights once we have setup at your venue.
Do you offer different colour bulbs?
Yes we can provide a choice of cool white, warm white or very warm white. This choice can specified upon booking.
When planning my event, where should the numbers or letters be placed?
For the safety of all guests the numbers and letters should be placed against a wall or backdrop. Each number and letter requires mains power. We will provide an extension lead if required, up to 10m.
Do you setup the hire items?
Yes. We offer a full installation and setup service for all hire items from Take A Vowel. This service is included within your hire price.
When will you deliver and collect?
Delivery and collection times will vary depending on the time you have access to your venue and when your event finishes. We will always confirm timings with you and the venue prior to your hire date.
Are there any safety details to observe for hire items?
For health and safety reasons we ask that hire items are not moved once setup. No guests are permitted to climb or sit on the props during the hire period. We also ask that no food or drinks are placed on any of our light up numbers or letters.
I am having an outdoor event; can the numbers or letters be placed outside?
Our numbers and letters are designed for indoor use. However, they can be setup within marquees, igloos, bell tents and tipis with a solid even floor and covered sides. Please bear in mind that they will require mains power.
How much is delivery?
Our delivery/collection fee is calculated from our base in Herne Bay, Kent. Delivery and collection from any venue within 20 miles of our base is free of charge. Delivery fees for venues more than 20 miles from our base are listed on our instant price builder at www.take-a-vowel.co.uk. Delivery fees are the total price to reflect two round trips for delivery and then collection.
